Once you have completed the Tracker/Naturalist series, or equivalent, you will be eligible to join the SDTT apprentice program and to participate in Intensive Dirt Time (please see below).


The apprentice program is customized based on individual goals and interests. For those who desire to increase their tracking competencies and to become SDTT Trackers, a minimum of 50 hours must be spent in various SDTT activities under the guidance of one or more mentors.


If the apprentice also wants to become a Transect Leader or Instructor, at least 75 total hours must be spent. Apprentices are matched to mentors based on mutual interests.
An Apprentice becomes a SDTT Tracker after completing the required hours, which typically takes 12 to 18 months, and approval by SDTT Senior Trackers. While not required, SDTT encourages trackers to pursue CyberTracker Track and Sign Certification.
