TCNA Tracker Certification with SDTT
The San Diego Tracking Team hosted one of the first CyberTracker track and sign certification events for wildlife trackers in North America in 2006. It was conducted by Mark Elbroch, author of numerous respected books on wildlife tracking. Dr. Elbroch earned his Senior Tracker Certificate in Kruger National Park, South Africa, and became the Initial Evaluator for Tracker Certification North America (TCNA) https://trackercertification.com/
The CyberTracker certification program was developed in 1994 by Louis Liebenberg in South Africa. CyberTracker is the only rigorous system available in North America for certifying field tracking skills and observer reliability. CTNA evaluators have also conducted track and sign evaluations throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.
The primary benefit to SDTT of certifying trackers is raising the level of trust in our Wildlife Survey Data. This is important whenever our data are used as evidence regarding the status of wildlife in areas we monitor. Beginning with the 2006 evaluation, SDTT has had numerous trackers become CyberTracker certified in track and sign identification. Evaluations hosted by SDTT will be advertised on our website when they are scheduled on our home page and a special link added to this page. Other evaluations across the county can be found at https://trackercertification.com/calendar/
