Ryan Crane
PRESIDENT
Ryan is the newly elected president of the San Diego Tracking Team. He enjoys all things outdoors, exploring the wilderness, and understanding the animals we share these spaces with. Ryan joined the team in 2015, volunteering as a transect leader and helping with education. He is a certified Tracker with SDTT and holds a TCNA Tracker 3 certification. Ryan's passion is the art of trailing, following tracks in an effort to find and observe animals. It is a great way to understand their behavior and the way they interact with the world around them. He continues to run(s several SDTT transects and monitors several trail cams to gather data on San Diego wildlife.

Phoenix Von Hendy
SECRETARY
Phoenix is an IT professional with a longstanding interest in nature. An avid birder since 1981, she began tracking in 1998 and earned her Cybertracker certification in 2006. Phoenix leads several transects for SDTT, has served on the Board since 2003, is a member of the Executive Committee, and chairs the Council of Tracking Teams, and the Wildlife Survey and Research subcommittee. She also stays busy leading bird hikes and teaching a birding class. In her free time (free time, what’s that??) she enjoys reading, gardening, and hanging out with horses. Phoenix served as SDTT President from January 2017 through January 2019.

Fred Kramer
TREASURER
Fred has had a life-long appreciation for the outdoors, beginning with camping vacations as a child. His interest in Nature led him to become a Trail Guide at Mission Trails Regional Park in 1995; he has been President of the program since 2000. He became involved with wildlife tracking with the formation of the MTRP Tracking Team in 2004. He joined the SDTT Board of Directors in 2007, has served as President, and is a member of the Executive Comittee. He currently focuses his attention on SDTT outreach activities. Fred worked as a civil servant at the US Navy lab on Point Loma for 40 years; he retired in 2008. He and his wife Linda, have two grown children and two granddaughters. Linda passed away in August of 2019.

Rick Botta
BOARD MEMBER/FOUNDER
Rick has been interested and active in the outdoors since childhood and began tracking in the early 1990s. He was a founding member of both the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve Tracking Team (LPCPTT) and the San Diego Tracking Team. Rick has attended tracking classes and workshops with Mark Elbroch, Mike Kresky, Adriaan Louw, Jon Young, and Tom Brown, Jr. and is CyberTracker certified and an instructor for all levels of SDTT tracking classes. He has done volunteer work with the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and associated with Mule Deer and Big Horn Sheep. As part of the LPCPTT, Rick established a 5-year mule deer survey in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve using multiple data collection methods which included the use of wildlife cameras. Rick served as SDTT Vice President from January 2017 through January 2019 and was elected President on 27 January 2019.

Terry Hunefeld

Terry is a mountain and desert survey leader for the San Diego Tracking Team and holds both Professional and Specialist Track & Sign Certificates from Tracker Certification North America (TCNA). He and his wife live in a tiny desert village - Borrego Springs - surrounded by a thousand square miles of Sonoran Desert wilderness known as the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Terry is a certified Naturalist for California State Parks, an outings leader for the Anza Borrego Desert State Park, the Anza Borrego Foundation, and the Anza Borrego Desert Natural History Association. As an avid advocate for the TCNA Cybertracker learning process, Terry participates annually in 12-16 Track & Sign certifications around North America.

Bob graduated from the apprentice program in 2014. He joined SDTT in 2000, doing transects at Los Pen with Lee Kirchevel. At its formation in 2004, he joined Mission Trails Tracking Team. In 2006, he was elected to the Board of Directors for SDTT with encouragement from Karen Larsen Gordon (then President of SDTT). He became a member of the Executive Committee in 2009, and serves as co-chair of the Outreach committee with Fred Kramer. Also in 2009, he became a Trail Guide at Mission Trails Regional Park, helping Mike Gibbs with monthly tracking walks. In February of 2015, he received a Ten Year Service Award from MTRP for his work on their tracking team.

Shankar Shivappa
BOARD MEMBER
Shankar joined the San Diego tracking team in 2005; he is a member of the Board of Directors and its Executive Committee and directs wildlife-survey training classes.
Shankar has been fascinated by wildlife since his childhood days. He has volunteered for various wildlife conservation organizations in India as well as here in the US. In addition to SDTT, he volunteers for Project wildlife in San Diego and Cascades Pika Watch in Oregon. He has a CyberTracker Level 3 certification for track and sign. He loves to take part in transects but enjoys teaching tracking even more.
Shankar works for Qualcomm as part of an advanced technologies R&D group. He has a doctorate in electrical engineering from UCSD. He enjoys playing with cameras and microphones and making them smarter and better as part of his day job. For fun, Shankar likes to run, bike, swim, hike, dive, sail, paddle board, take road trips, garden - taking advantage of all that San Diego and California have to offer! -
Eric Tracy
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Erik began with SDTT in 2015. He completed the apprentice program to become a SDTT Tracker in 2018.
Erik holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from UCSD (Revelle College) and worked for over 30 years with different local Defense and Government firms before retiring in 2015 to spend more time with family, friends, and passionate pursuits. His other interests include being a senior martial arts instructor, backyard barbecue, audio/music enthusiast, and self-admitted Tolkien nut.
Erik was awarded SDTT Volunteer of the Year for 2018 and currently serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Wildlife Survey Classes and Beginner Naturalist/Tracker training. -
Evelyn Ono Vineberg
BOARD MEMBER
Evelyn has been fascinated since childhood with all manner of animals from ladybugs and leaf hoppers to chimpanzees and humans. On weekends, she sharpens her naturalist skills by sighting and identifying animal tracks and sign and recognizing birds and their calls. During the week, she pursues her passion of teaching academic English to non-native speakers at Miramar Community College. She completed the SDTT apprenticeship program in 2011. She volunteers on transects around the county, assists in educational outreach, and edits the Clear Print newsletter. Evelyn earned a Level-2 CyberTracker Track and Sign certification in 2017, leads the Lake-Sutherland and Crest (#24) transects, and was awarded Senior Tracker status in 2019.
